OCTOBER is domestic violence awareness month

Saturday, 10/10 kicks off 10 thousand steps! Virtual Awareness Walk

Get out your FitBit, use an App, or just count them in your head!  If on any day between October 10 and October 31, you reach 10,000 steps, take a picture of your phone, FitBit or any other way you can think of and send it to us by 4pm on the October 31 deadline, you must have done 10,000 steps in order to qualify!  

Include your name, phone/email and a picture of your 10,000 and you will be entered into a drawing for some fun prizes!  Raise awareness and lower your blood pressure, all at the same time.  Email: jhuxley@dvrcsc.org

According to an article on DomesticShelters.org, the decision to use purple to symbolize the cause of domestic violence can be traced back to the early 1900s. Rose M. Garrity, president of the National Coalition Against Domestic Violence (NCADV), said the women’s suffrage movement utilized purple, white and gold because those were the colors of the National Women’s Party. She said these colors originated in England and symbolized “purity, hope and loyalty.”  read more...

Light The Town Purple through October!

Place a purple bulb in your outdoor light fixture for the whole month of October!  To make it easy, Richard Osborne of Ace Hardware in Wyoming and Jeff Salk of Ace Hardware in Wakefield have generously donated purple light bulbs for you!  Supplies are limited so make arrangements to pick one up today!  61 Main Street in Wakefield.  Please email Jhuxley@dvrcsc.org.  Let's light the town purple!
